about free association

“Free Association” is the current name of this weblog, reflecting my thinking-out-loud, don’t-care-if-it’s-wrong strategy for getting ideas out of my head and onto (virtual) paper. Consider everything here as ill-informed opinion for an audience of one, me.

If you’re looking for more about me… here’s the story circa early 2012.

I’m transitioning back in to academia, having detoured through consulting and freelancing. I’ve had a high tolerance for risk in the past, looking to improve the risk/reward ratio now. I’m intent on staying in the San Francisco Bay area (thus my departure initial departure from academia).

If you’re looking to hire me, my CV runs to something like 8 pages. I stopped building it in 2006 when became apparent that it wasn’t paying off, which is why I am reluctant to distribute it. For the kinds of positions I’m interested in, resumes have been pretty much declared dead. My LinkedIn profile or Github account provides a better picture of what I do. If you really want a CV, email me.

Otherwise, drop me a line. I’d love to hear from you. Tell me what you’ve been up to over the last year, or two years, or thirty years. It’s hard enough to keep up with everything going on in just my little area; given friends and acquaintances scattered over time and space, it’s just impossible. But the internet makes the world a little smaller, so let’s stay in touch.
